Government to Increase Sugar Buffer Stock
The central government can increase buffer stock from 5 million tonnes to 3 million tonnes to provide support to sugar mills. The Ministry of Food has issued a cabinet note for this, which can be resolved in the next week's meeting. The central government can grant the mills subsidies of about Rs 1,100 crore to accelerate the payment of the farmers.
According to a senior official of the Food Ministry, there is a proposal to increase the sugar buffer stock to 5 million tonnes, which is currently 3 million tonnes. It was stated that the buffer stock is also proposed to be extended for one year. A subsidy of approximately Rs 1,100 crore can be granted on this. This proposal is expected to be decided at next week's cabinet meeting.
