Government Sanctions One-Lakh Tonnes of Maize Import
The government has sanctioned one-lakh tonnes of maize imports, which is expected to affect its prices. The arrival of new maize will also begin in the middle of the current month in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Directorate-General for Foreign Trade (DGFT), importing one-lakh tonnes of maize has been allowed to meet the demand of the poultry industry at a rate of 15% import duty. This maize will only be used in poultry feed and will be allowed to be imported from its user companies. The 'feed grade' maize with fixed exemption and conditions has been allowed to be imported under the tariff rate quota, according to the DGFT.
