Government procurement of wheat is trailing by 10 percent
On the current Rabi marketing season 2019-20, the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat has gone down by 10.28 percent to 265.29 lakh tonnes, whereas in the previous year Rabi procurement was 294.70 lakh tonnes. The total procurement target of wheat in current Rabi is expected to be less than 356.50 lakh tonnes. A senior official of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) said that In the productive states, due to unseasonal rains in April delayed the arrival of the crop, due to which the procurement of wheat
in the current Rabi is going on behind. However, in the productive markets throughout the week, there is pressure of wheat in the daily arrivals, so the government purchases have also started to grow. In current Rabi, the target of procurement of wheat at MSP has been fixed at 356.50 lakh tonnes. This time the Central Government has fixed the MSP of wheat Rs. 1,840 per quintal. As per the second advance estimate of the Ministry of Agriculture, the estimated wheat production in the current crop season 2018-19 is estimated to be 99.12 million tonnes.
