Government Announces Stringent Import Standards for Pulses
New Delhi: The central government has tightened the pulse import rules. Now only pulses mills will be able to import pulses and the application will be accepted until April 30. After that, the government will issue an import license to eligible mills. According to the information released by the Directorate - General for Foreign Trade (DGFT), only pulse mills will be allowed to import pulses in the current financial year 2019 - 20.
According to sources, this step was taken by the central government to stop the dumping of imported pulses. According to the Ministry of Agriculture's second preliminary estimate, pulse production is expected to be 240.2 lakh tons in the current crop season 2018-19, while only 239.5 lakh tons were produced in the previous crop season. The country's annual consumption of pulses is only 240 - 2.5 million tons.
