New Delhi. To make the country self-sufficient in edible oils, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged farmers to increase the production of oilseed crops. Addressing the Sixth World Congress on Rural and Agriculture held in Delhi, she said that we have to import large quantities of edible oils especially palm oil.
Sitharaman said that the government was focusing on several areas while accepting more dependence on rural life and agriculture than usual. She also stressed on water management and water pressure points in rural areas and issued soil health cards to farmers.
The Finance Minister also appealed to the farmers to contribute to the solar energy sector. She said that farmers should also come forward in areas like wind energy, roofs and solar panels on wastelands. She said that the government will ensure that the farmers of Jammu and Kashmir get reasonable prices of products like apples, saffron, walnuts etc. so that their products can reach all over the country.
