Efficient nutrient planning in Papaya
After banana fruit, the most productive papaya is grown in entire state. Generally, papaya is cultivated in June-July, February-March, and October-November months. The seedlings are used for cultivation of papaya after 40 to 45 days of their growth.
In Papaya cultivation, special importance is given to nutrition management. All the hybrid varieties available in our area respond well to nutrients during 16-18 month period. For obtaining high yield of papaya, instead of applying fertilizers 1-2 times, it is necessary to divide the total quantity of fertilizers and apply them at different crop stages. It is necessary to use organic fertilizers in addition to chemical fertilizers. For proper nutrition management, soil examination is necessary before planting so that more yield is obtained. It is necessary to use organic fertilizer after rating the quality of the soil. Due to proper nutrition planning, texture of the soil improves, the drainage is the proper and increases the water holding capacity, resulting in a record production. Organic Fertilizers: If the soil is medium deep, then before land preparation, add 25-30 carts full of local fertilizer and pond mud should be added to the soil. If the soil is very deep, then before land preparation, add 15-20 carts full of local fertilizer and pond mud in the soil. If local fertilizer is not available, then use FYM or compost fertilizer. However, this fertilizer should be well-decomposed. It should not contain any non decomposing waste products. Chemical fertilizers: At the time of land preparation, after putting local fertilizer and pond mud; 10:26:26 should be given 50 gm per plant after plantation. Then use chemical fertilizers as follows: 1 month after planting-100 g 10:26:26 2 months after planting-200 gm. M.O P. 3 months after planting-250 gm D. A. P. 4 months after planting-250 gm D. A. P. 5 months after planting-250 gm. D.A. P. 6 months after planting-250 g 19: 19:19 7 months after planting-250 g 19: 19:19 7 months after planting-200 gm. M. O P. Slurry: If you use slurry with fertilizers, you can get fruits with better quality and weight. Only due to slurry, it is possible to provide nutrients to the trees. By giving slurry, useful bacteria grow in the root system in large quantities. Because of this, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur are readily available to the trees. There are examples of obtaining 80 to 85 tonne yield per acre by using slurry. To prepare the slurry, add 100 kg of dung to 400 liters of water. 10 kg ferrous sulphate, 10 kg of magnesium sulphate and 10 kg of borax should be mixed with the dung. Stir this mixture with a stick and combine it properly. Stir it again with a stick after 24 hours. When using this slurry, mix it again with 600 liters of water and use it after 24 hours. In this process, all the micro nutrients are dissolved in water. The result is seen if the mixture is given one liter per plant at least seven times per month. Slurry should be given below the drip system using line method. Slurry should be used after applying chemical fertilizers. The leaves of papaya become green; they do not look yellow. The plant grows stronger, the number of fruits and the weight of the fruits increases. The fruit cavity decreases and pulp increases.
