Effective control of tick fever in cattle
Tick fever is a disease found in cows and buffaloes and it spreads via ticks. Due to this, the percentage of hemoglobin in the blood decreases. This disease is found in the hybrid cows on a large scale.
Epidemiology: • Ticks are found on the animal body in large numbers during the months from July to October. • Factors like hot and humid climate, infestation of other diseases etc. help for the incidence of this disease. • The possibility of foreign breeds to be infected by this disease is more. Generally buffaloes are more resistant as compared to cows and bulls. • Due to frequent change of place, the animals feel weakness. This is also a cause of the disease infestation. • Generally the disease is more prevalent in the foreign breed calves. Symptoms: • The temperature of the cattle body increases up to 40 to 41 degrees Celsius (102-106 degrees Fahrenheit.) • Water (Tears) flows from the nose and eyes. Fast heart beats and growth in the size of lymph nodes is also seen. • Bloody stools, loss of appetite and animals stop ruminating. The pulse becomes faster and the animal becomes weak and attains semi-sleepy state. • They face trouble while breathing and the respiration rate is faster. There is mucous discharge from nose in the last stage. Preventive measures- Tick removal from the cattle shed: 1. The animals should be scrubbed regularly. 2. Tick removal from the animals should be done as per the advice of veterinary doctor. 3. The cracks in the cattle shed should be burnt using flame gun twice in a year. Reference- Agrowon
