Domestic Production of Turmeric can Rise By 15%
Sangli: The suitable atmosphere with regard to turmeric in the current year is expected to increase domestic production by 10% to 15%. In the last season, the turmeric rate was Rs 6, 500 to 10, 000 per quintal. Currently, the new turmeric in the market costs around Rs 7,000 to 12,000. However, the rates are increasing due to its lesser production. Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh are the country's leading turmeric producers. The share includes 40% of the country's total production, as these states have a good monsoon, which gives the turmeric crop a good boost. The country produces around 75 lakh bags (60 kg bags) of turmeric annually. Every year, 22 to 23 lakh turmeric bags are unused in the country. This means that there is about one crore bag of unused turmeric bags from the previous years and newly produced turmeric in
the country. This keeps prices constant. Turmeric was available at the end of April last year for Rs 6,500 to 10,000 per quintal. The rates are based on yield and balance. In the last four to five years of review, there was about one crore bag of turmeric production in the country. However, the climate this year seems to be favourable for this crop; therefore, turmeric production is likely to increase by 10% to 15%. This means that the remaining turmeric should be between 22 and 23 lakh bags and turmeric production, 85 to 90 lakh bags (107 to 113 bags) will be available on the market.
