Demand for expansion of grain imports
New Delhi - Sowing of Kharif grain crop farming in the country is getting delayed this year. In this year, the Agriculture Department has expressed apprehension that the cereal crop production may decline this year as compared to the previous year. Therefore, the merchant organization had sought a license extension for grain imports. According to the Ministry of Consumer Welfare, on Tuesday 30 November, the Ministry of Commerce sent a proposal for the extension.
The production of Kharif grain crop was 7 lakh tonnes in 2018-19. Therefore, to meet the market demand by importing grain crop, the trade organization had demanded an extension of import license. Therefore, the Union Ministry of Consumer Welfare has asked the Ministry of Commerce to extend the license by 30 November.
