Dates are not cultivated much in India but they are imported from foreign countries for Ramzan, told a trader, Dinesh Seth. He told that currently varieties of dates like Bum, Mazafati from Iraq, Fardha, Khalazi, Lulu from Saudi Arabia and Zahadi from Iraq dates are being imported on a large scale. Dates of various varieties are available in the market now. The dates of Azwa variety are in great demand as the tree of this type of date has been planted by Mohammad Paigambar himself. People prefer to soak this variety of date in honey and saffron is added to it before eating. As per traders, dates from foreign countries are tasty and beneficial for health.
