Central Government to Support Women Farmers Doing Organic Farming
Two central government ministries signed a memorandum of understanding to encourage the products of organic farming women to reach consumers.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Accordingly, the National Institute of Food Technology and Entrepreneurship Management constituted under the Ministry of Food Processing will organize national organic fairs for women entrepreneurs, while the expenditure will be borne by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The two Ministries agreed that National Food Institute of Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) Kundali (Sonipat, Haryana) will hold its annual festival. The institute is an educational institution under the Ministry of Food Processing. Under the MoU, the Ministry of Women and Child Development will transfer funds to the Vice Chancellor of NIFTEM to conduct the program. The institute will provide Utilization Certificate to the Ministry at the end of the financial year.
The objective of the fair is to bring industries and farmers associated with organic foods and other organic products on one platform. This will also promote organic food products promotion in the country.
