Center to Construct 1.6 million tonnes of Pulses Stock to Control Prices
New Delhi: Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan instructed the officers to reduce rising pulses rates. He has set a target to take the required measures in the first 100 days to store 16 lakh tonnes of pulses. With the assistance of public storage, the growing market prices of pulses will be stopped.
Pulses' prices have begun to skyrocket due to weakening of pulses crop and rigid import regulations. Pigeon pea, which was sold for 72 rupees per kg, has become expensive by 15 to 18 rupees per kg. At the same time, lentil and gram prices have also increased. Bimal Kothari, Vice President of the Indian Pulses and Grains Association, said pigeon pea's price has risen after more than two years, which may be due to uneven rains in the regions where pulses are produced. The government can improve import quotas of pigeon pea and other pulses after this situation.
