The infestation is more prevalent in the varieties having bunchy pod setting. The attack of these caterpillars is more if chickpea field is very nearby to this crop. Non-irrigated pigeon pea crop is less attacked by this pest. The attack is generally lower if the crop is grown with maize as intercrop. A variety having green-brown striped pods is less affected than the varieties having green coloured pods. Infestation is less in medium late maturing varieties. The effect of these caterpillars is less if the crop is sown during first week of July. Control of this pod borer, spray chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 3 ml or flubendiamide 20 WG @ 5 g per 10 lit of water.
