Brazil will Purchase Wheat from India
New Delhi: The Union Agriculture Ministry has informed that there is a possibility of wheat, rice and other coarse grains procurement from India after talks between the agriculture ministers of both Brazil and India.
Bilateral trade opportunities were recently discussed between Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Brazilian Agriculture Minister Teresa Cristina Corrêa da Costa Dias. In the discussion, the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture agreed in favour of the import of grain from India. She said, Brazil is compatible with importing wheat, rice and coarse grains from India. Brazil has a quota of seven and a half million tonnes of wheat import with zero percent import duty. India uses it to export to Brazil. Brazil imports 70 million tonnes of wheat every year. Brazil is one of the important importers of wheat, rice and other grains in the world. India is a large country for wheat and rice production. In 2018-19, India did bilateral trade with Brazil at $104 million. According to Tomar, the number of available business opportunities is small and there is a need to boost trade between India and South American countries.
