Banks approve loans worth Rs 62,870 crore to 70 lakh Kisan card holders!
Banks have issued 70.32 lakh Kisan Credit Cards to farmers with a loan limit of Rs 62,870 crore to meet the sowing requirements of crops during the Kharif season.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman wrote on Twitter that as of June 30, 2020, 70.32 lakh Kisan Credit Cards have been issued under the self-sufficient package with a loan limit of Rs 62,870 crore under a total loan of Rs 2 lakh crore.
In May, the government announced a concessional loan of Rs 2 lakh crore through Kisan Credit Card to 2.5 crore farmers, including fishermen and farmers associated with the animal husbandry industry.
In another tweet, he said the government has also disbursed Rs 24,586.87 crore to cooperative banks, regional rural banks (RRBs) and microfinance institutions under special liquidity facility by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). As of 30.06.2020, Rs 24,586.87 crore has already been disbursed by NABARD to cooperative banks, RRBs and MFIs under a special liquidity facility of Rs 30,000 crore. This will help 3 crore small and marginal farmers to meet their post-harvest and kharif sowing needs.
Regarding giving concessional loans of up to Rs 2 lakh crore to the farmers, the government had said that a special campaign will be launched to provide loans to PM-Kisan beneficiaries through the Kisan Credit Card.
