New Delhi: In the Kharif season, the army worm damaged 84 thousand 486 hectares of maize crops. In Rajya Sabha, Minister of Agriculture, Purushottam Rupala said that during the Rabbi season the larvae crisis continues and the army worm has invaded the cultivation of sugarcane and sorghum. Rupala also said, “The maximum spread of the army worm began in Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. This worm affected approximately 81,000 hectares of Karnataka’s crop.
In sub - Saharan Africa, there was a great shortage of food grains last year due to an army worm attack. In June, scientists from the Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka found this worm. There was a 70% increase in maize cultivation here. At that time, the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Government provided farmers with pesticides and materials to control the pest in the state.
