Agriculture Ministry: New Crop Pattern to Manage Water Scarcity
New Delhi: The agriculture ministry is designing a special crop pattern plan for farmers due to water scarcity. In this plan, vegetables, maize and traditional crops should be suggested instead of plants such as sugar cane, rice, etc. Farmers will be encouraged for this as they will receive prices for short-term crops.
This discussion took place in the meeting with Union Food and Civil Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, along with senior officials of Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. In this meeting it was discussed, sugarcane and rice require more amount of water and hence, their cultivation should be practised on the banks of the river and other farmers were advised to cultivate crops that require minimum water such as pigeon pea, with the assistance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. In addition, pulse imports were addressed to manage drought condition and prices.
