According to government data, during the lockdown sowing area and agricultural operations increased!
Huge efforts were made by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Government of India to simplify the tasks of farmers and farming during the lockdown period caused by the coronavirus. Statistics of some of the actions in this lockdown period have been released by the government._x000D_ Due to Lockdown-2, all the wholesale mandis of the country were closed by 25 April. There are 2587 major / main agricultural markets recognized by the Government of India, out of which 1091 markets were functioning on 26 April. As of 23 April, 2067 markets have been made operational._x000D_ Procurement of pulses and oilseeds at minimum support price is going on in 20 states of the country. NAFED and FCI have purchased 1,79,852.21 MT of pulses and 1,64,195.14 MT oilseeds valued at Rs 1605.43 crore, benefiting 2,05,869 farmers._x000D_ Increase in the area of summer crop sowing_x000D_ Rice: As compared to last year, there was 25.22 lakh hectares of rice sown area which has now increased to about 34.73 lakh hectares._x000D_ Pulses: As compared to last year, the area sown with pulses of 3.82 lakh hectare has now increased to about 5.07 lakh hectares._x000D_ Coarse cereals: Coarse cereals sowing area have also increased to 8.55 lakh hectares by this time as compared to last year._x000D_ Oilseeds: Oilseeds have also been sown in about 8.73 lakh hectares by this time, compared to last year._x000D_ Status of Rabi crop harvesting by 24 April_x000D_ Wheat:_x000D_ According to the state government data, so far about 98-99% wheat crop has been harvested in Madhya Pradesh, 90-92% in Rajasthan, 82-85% in Uttar Pradesh, 50-55% in Haryana, 45- 50% in Punjab and 86-88% crop has been harvested in other states._x000D_ _x000D_ Source: - Krishi Jagaran, 25 April 2020_x000D_ If you find this information is useful to you, like it and share it with your farmer friends._x000D_
