Pune: The central government has allowed the export of 6 million tonnes of sugar from the country in the financial year 2019-20. Of these, Prakash Naiknavare, managing director of the National Cooperative Sugar Factory Federation said that the contract for the export of 2 million tonnes of sugar in the state has been completed.
He has expressed an estimate that the remaining stock in the country will stabilize sugar prices. Sugar exports are the only option to reduce sugar addition in the country. Given the demand of sugar industry, the central government had allowed the export of about 5 million tonnes of sugar in the years 2018-2019. In this, the export of 37 lakh tonnes of sugar from the factories of the country was completed. This year, the sugar export quota has been set at 60 million tonnes. Of these, the factories have been successful in fulfilling the contract of exporting 20 lakh tonnes of sugar. Indian sugar is mainly in demand from Iran, Indonesia, Bangladesh. National Cooperative Sugar Factory Federation President MLA Dilip Valse Patil said that there is a good opportunity to export sugar in the factories of the country.
