Country to start digital farming
Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University in Parbhani presented the Center for Training Excellence on Digital Agriculture by robots, drones and automated machines at the Indian Agricultural Research Conference in New Delhi. This was done as a move to increase agricultural productivity. The National Director of Agriculture Research Council of India has approved this project under the National Agricultural Higher Education Project. Rakesh Chandra Agarwal recently informed in a letter to the university that this international standard project would be the only training project in the country, and the ideal advanced Agricultural Science and Technology Center (CAAST-Center for Advanced Agricultural Science & Technology) would be set up at the university.
The training project has been conceptualized for three years from 2019 to 2022 and it has been approved with funding of eighteen crores, of which 50% will be received from the World Bank and 50% through the Agricultural Research Council of India. It will create training facilities for students and research professors by creating various research laboratories, robots, drones and automatic digital tools. Trained by this centre, trainees will try to bring digital farming techniques to the farmers.
