Government Releases 18 Lakh Tonnes Sugar for Sale!
New Delhi: In April, the government released 18 lakh tonnes of sugar for sale, which is 6.50 lakh tonnes less than March's 24.50 lakh tons. It also extended its time to save the remaining quota in March, giving relief to the sugar mills on April 30, 2019.
According to a senior Food Ministry official, this will reduce the pressure to sell sugar to the mills. It was stated that in April only 18 lakh tonnes of sugar was released. Total sugar production in the current crushing season 2018-19 (October to September) is estimated at 307 lakh tonnes compared to 325 lakh tonnes in the previous crushing season, according to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA).
