Decrease in sesame area in the country
MUMBAI: The area under cultivation in Kharif has reduced by 6.1% year-on-year to 1.27 million hectares, according to Agriculture Ministry data.
The sowing gap has increased by 5.4% in the last week. In Madhya Pradesh, the second-largest producer, sowing fell by 29.5%, with 3,11,000 hectares sown. Also, the major producers in the state of Rajasthan, the area under cultivation increased by 0.9% to 2.88,700 hectares.
Sowing area in Uttar Pradesh, the highest-income state, increased by 25.8% year-on-year to 4,17,435 hectares. This has prevented a single fall in the area under cultivation.
