Water management for a custard apple garden
• Irrigation of a custard apple garden should be done in the morning between 6 am and 8 am. Thereby, the management of humidity and sufficient utilization of water is used for pollen irrigation. This results in satisfactory growth of the fruit.
• Use the method of drip irrigation for irrigating the garden. This results in saving water to the tune of 50 to 70 percent. Two laterals should be erected on both sides of the tree. Additionally place two drippers on each lateral. This helps in equal dispersal of the entire quantity of water around the area of the spread of roots, thereby helping the growth of the plant. Subsequently, water too is saved.
• Use an organic or plastic overlay/ cover in the garden for an effective method to save water as well as the crop. Bind the overlay/Cover around the stem of the tree.
In order to use an organic overlay/cover, use 8-10 kg of sugarcane and dried grass around each tree. In case of abundant availability of organic overlay/cover, then the organic cover should be spread to the extent of the shade of the tree. As the roots of the tree extract and utilize the water and nutrients as far as the shade of the tree.
