Agricultural products export down by 10.60%
In the first quarter of the current financial year 2019-20, exports of agricultural products declined by 10.60%. According to the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in the first quarter of the current financial year 2019-20, exports of non-basmati rice declined by 43.51 per cent to the total exports of 11.94 lakh tonnes as compared to its previous financial year. 21 lakh tonnes of non-basmati rice was exported during the same period.
In terms of value, non-basmati rice exports stood at Rs 3,379 crore and basmati rice at Rs 8,728 crore in the first quarter compared to Rs 5,982 and Rs 8,610 crore in the same period last fiscal.
However, the export of fresh fruits has definitely improved in the first quarter of the current financial year. During April to June 2019-20, their exports amounted to Rs 1,337 crores of 1,99,376 tonnes, while in the same period last fiscal, exports of 1,87,246 tonnes stood at Rs 1,376 crores. Exports of guar gum products have declined from 1,35,210 tonnes in the first quarter of 2018-19 to 1,27,700 tonnes in the current financial year. Exports by value were down to Rs 1,142 crore from Rs 1,239 crore in the previous financial year.
