Water management in cotton
Water management is very important
For getting higher yield in Cotton crop, irrigation management is very important except the rain.
After the last rain, according to availability of soil moisture, heavy black soil can irrigate at 20 to 25 days interval, while sandy soil can irrigate at 15 to 20 days interval.
The critical stages for irrigation of the Cotton where must irrigate crop are:
1. Vegetative stage
2. Flowering stage
3. Boll formation stage
4. Boll opening stage
In Cotton, the crop must irrigate before flowering, it is not advisable to irrigate the field at maximum flower on the plant, but if stress condition at that time, a heavy flower will drop, so must need to irrigate during this stages.
Very frequent irrigation will allow plant to vegetative growth, due to this, flowering and boll opening will be delayed.
