Three states have got 'Biological India Award'
The 'Biological India Award' has been given to three states of the country. Manipur is ranked first in the 'Biological India Award', second place to Punjab and Uttrakhand third place. Trade and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu presented these awards in a program in Delhi. This initiative has been taken to promote organic farming in the country and to encourage more people towards organic farming. Uttarakhand got this National Award for the second time in order to do outstanding work in organic farming. At present, three lakh farmers of the state are cultivating organic farming in 1.5 lakh hectares. Punjab was selected by Punjab Agro because of efforts to advance organic farming at a bigger level and make it aware of it.
The Punjab Government is organizing organic program to provide institutional support to the farmers associated with organic farming under various schemes of the Government of India through its Agency, Punjab Agri Export Corporation. The Punjab Agriculture is also being fully supported in the storage of farmers' crops. Under which biological wheat, maize, basmati and other crops are being purchased at the right rates from farmers associated with organic farming and certification is being made for sale in India and the rest of the country. Center has sanctioned Rs.1500 crore for organic farming. Working in the direction of making 10 thousand organic clusters._x000D_
