Target for rice procurement on support price in Kharif increase by 12.50% this year
The government has set a target of procuring 416 lakh tonnes of rice at the minimum support price (MSP) in the Kharif marketing season 2019-20. This is 12.50% more than the previous year's target of 369.75 lakh tonnes.
Giving this information, a senior Food Ministry official said that the target was 369.75 lakh tonnes in the last Kharif but the procurement was 440.03 lakh tonnes. He informed that a record production of 10.21 crore tonnes of rice has been done in 2018-19 Kharif.
He informed that in the Kharif Marketing Season 2019-20 starting from 1st October 2019, the target of procurement of rice from the major producing state Punjab is 114 lakh tonnes and 40 lakh tonnes from Haryana, 40 lakh tonnes from Andhra Pradesh, 48 lakh tonnes from Chhattisgarh and There is a target of 3.4 million tonnes from Odisha. The target is to procure 33 lakh tonnes from Uttar Pradesh, 30 lakh tonnes from Telangana, 23 lakh tonnes from West Bengal, 1.2 million tonnes from Bihar and 14 lakh tonnes from Madhya Pradesh. The Center has fixed the MSP of A-grade paddy at Rs 1,835 and that of general grade paddy at Rs 1,815 per quintal for the current Kharif marketing season 2019-20.
