Sugar Production at 45.81 Lakh Tonnes
New Delhi. In the current crushing season (October-September), which started from October 1, 2019, till December 15 only 45.81 lakh tonnes of sugar has been produced, which is 35% less than the previous year. By this time last year, 70.54 lakh tonnes of sugar was produced.
According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), in the current crushing season, crushing is going on in 406 sugar mills as compared to 473 sugar mills. Sugar production has increased in the major producing state of Uttar Pradesh, but there has been a decrease in sugar production in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
In the current crushing season in Uttar Pradesh, sugar production has increased to 21.25 lakh tonnes by December 15. While the production of sugar in Maharashtra has reduced to only 7.66 lakh tonnes till December 15. By December 15, 1.52 lakh tonnes in Gujarat, 30 thousand tonnes in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, 73,000 tonnes in Tamil Nadu, 1.35 lakh tonnes in Bihar, 75,000 tonnes in Punjab and 65,000 tonnes in Haryana and 35,000 tonnes in Madhya Pradesh were produced.
