Onion Prices Rise Due to Drop in Production Estimates: Agriculture Minister
The Government has stated that it was estimated that 69.9 lakh tonnes of onions will be produced this year, but that 53.73 lakh tonnes are projected to be produced in the current circumstances. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said this in answer to the Rule 193 discussion on crop loss due to various reasons and its effect on farmers. Tomar said that the production of onion in the country takes place in three seasons. A total of 70% is produced in Rabi, 20% in Kharif and 10% in Late Kharif.
In the last days of the monsoon, the crops were destroyed due to excessive rainfall.
