One Thousand and Thirty-Seven Ton Mango Exported, This Year
During the peak season, State Agricultural Marketing Board's Export Facility Centre exported 1 million 37 tonnes of Mango. This could happen due to the joint efforts of marketing boards, agriculture department and APEDA. Not only this, as reported by Mr Sunil Pawar, executive director of the board, the Department met its exporting objectives. Several varieties of Mango including Hapus, Saffron, Bangapalli, Lambda, Chausa etc. have been exported. Meanwhile, export to five countries - the European Union, Russia, New Zealand, Japan, and Mauritius - happened using the marketing system. Dr Bhaskar Patil, Deputy Managing Director of Marketing Board, said that this is the first time the export of mangoes took place from the sea route. Europe has an opportunity to export mangoes through the sea during the upcoming season. If that happens, they have a good chance of competing in the competitive Indian Mango market.
