New protein-rich wheat seed available from October
Farmers will get the seed of the new protein-rich wheat variety HD-3226 (Pusa Yashvi) developed in the country in October from Pusa Institute. Its average yield per hectare is 57.5 quintal. This variety is resistant to Karnal bunt disease along with yellow rust, white rust.
Dr. Rajbir Yadav, Principal Scientist of the genetic department of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), told that farmers of the new wheat variety HD-3,226 will get seeds from Pusa Campus from October, although seeds will be available in limited quantities in the current Rabi. He said that to prepare its seeds, MoU has been recently tied-up with 35 to 40 private seed companies and hence farmers will get their seeds in plenty from next year.
The protein content in this is 0.50% more than other varieties. It has 12.8% protein while other varieties have maximum 12.3% protein. The quantity of gluten is also high in this variety. Farmers will have to sow this variety before November 20 for adequate yields. Its average yield is 57.5 q / ha. Its crop is ready in 142 days.
