IRDA: Insurance Companies Must Provide Claim Details in Local Languages
IRDA said insurance companies should ensure that responses to all call centres/toll - free numbers are available in other local languages other than Hindi and English. For the benefit of farmers, the websites should be equipped with all crop-related information in local languages.
Indian Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) has stated that for farmers, ordinary insurance companies must provide details on crop insurance claims in local languages other than Hindi and English. Effective implementation of crop insurance schemes is required as they received various complaints and suggestions regarding crop insurance claims. According to IRDA, besides Hindi and English, the insurer should ensure that responses to all call centres/toll-free numbers are available in the other official languages of the state. For the benefit of farmers, the details of crop insurance should be disclosed in the local languages on the websites of insurance companies. In addition, a comprehensive awareness program should also be organized to educate farmers about the guidelines, claims settlement process, and grievance redressal process. Insurers should set up a strong system to record all individual potential loss evaluation requests, and if a personal loss assessment is rejected, the letter of written rejection stating the reason should be sent to the policyholder.
