“Increase Investments in Agriculture” - Vice-President, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu
Mumbai: On the opening of the 25th Annual Partnership Summit of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said that agriculture is still the foundation of the Indian economy. Almost 60 per cent of the country’s population is dependent on agriculture. The main focus of investment and industries in the country should, therefore, be on agriculture. In addition, helpful steps must be taken to ensure sustainable agriculture and employment.
Naidu said it is necessary to make agriculture profitable and sustainable. It should also be encouraged for additional livelihoods such as poultry, horticulture, and fisheries. Agriculture along with food processing industries must be promoted. Moreover, it is necessary to focus on research to increase the safe production of food in the country. The country's economy has reached $3 trillion and in the next few years, the Indian economy is expected to reach $5 trillion. According to World Bank estimates, India will be the fastest growing economy in the world.
