Importance of Vaccination in Livestock (Part-2)
Vaccination allows animals to stay healthy, as we saw in Part 1. In this chapter, we will review the type of vaccines to be provided for specific illnesses.
Foot and Mouth disease: Oil adjuvant vaccine is given to prevent this disease. The first vaccine is provided to the livestock in one month and the second vaccine is given at the age of 6 months, and vaccination should be performed every year thereafter. The dose of vaccine should be 2 ml to be injected under the skin during the month of March-April or September-October.
Hemorrhagic Septicemia (Galsundha): This is the disease that is mostly observed in the monsoon season, which is caused by a bacteria, so vaccination should be performed before the rainy season. For this disease, H.S. (Haemorrhagic septicaemia) vaccine should be given. The dose of vaccine should be 2 ml to be injected every 6 months under the skin during the month of March-April or September-October.
Lameness: Polyvalent vaccine should be given to prevent this disease. The first vaccination should take place at the age of 6 months. Before the arrival of the monsoon, the vaccine dose should be 5 ml injected into livestock below the skin.
Brucellosis: This is the primary reason for abortion in the animal's third phase of conception. In female calves, only the first 2 ml dose vaccine should be given at 4-6 months of age. This pregnant cattle should not be given this vaccine.
Theileriosis: First vaccine should be provided up to three months or more and then 3 ml must be immunized below the skin. Its resistant power lasts up to 3 months.
