Nashik: The central government will supply 50,000 metric tonnes of onion through NAFED. According to this, the onion will be purchased at various locations. This will provide relief for onion growers.
Onion is obtained through NAFED as an emergency arrangement so that after the price is structured there is no sales issue. This will be the largest purchase of onion compared to each year's purchase. This is the first time that 50,000 metric tonnes of onion will be purchased in Gujarat.
Since the progress stabilization fund of the Swaminathan Commission has been made in the current year's budget, the path to procurement has been simplified. The government has decided to buy 50 thousand metric tonnes of onion this year, of which 45,000 metric tonnes will be purchased from Maharashtra and 5,000 metric tonnes from Gujarat.
Farmers' groups and businesses working towards the development will help towards buying a good quality onion. This work will be completed in accordance with the guidelines of NAFED. According to the report of the National Horticultural Research and Development Organization, 55 lakh metric tonnes of storage capacity is available in the country.
