Drop in BT Cotton Seeds Maximum Selling to Benefit 80 Lakh Farmers
The central government has cut the maximum selling price of BT cotton seeds, which is likely to benefit the 80 lakh cotton farmers in the country. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, the packet price of 450 gms BT cotton (Ballgaard-II) has been reduced to Rs.730 (including Rs. 20 in royalty). BT cotton seeds' maximum selling price in the 2018 - 19 crop season was Rs. 740 per packet, which included Rs 39 royalty duty. Royalty for the current crop season has been reduced from Rs. 39 to Rs. 20 per packet. This will also benefit domestic seed companies.
