Current Fiscal Year Witnesses Rise in Basmati Rice Exports
The export of basmati rice has increased by 2.62% to 33.65 lakh tonnes.
Exports of non-basmati rice during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, 2018-19, declined by 15.45% and total exports stood at 61.21 lakh tonnes due to the decrease in import demand from other countries along with Bangladesh. Meanwhile, basmati rice exports have increased by 2.62% to 33.65 tonnes of lakh.
Bangladesh had imported non-basmati rice in the last financial year, according to a senior APIDA official. The country has more domestic stock in the current financial year as a result of which Bangladesh's import demand is declining.
The export of basmati rice has increased 2.62% to 33.65 lakh tonnes during the first ten months of the current financial year 2018-19, from April to January, compared to 32.79 lakh tonnes in the same period last fiscal year 2017-18. In the first ten months of the current financial year, the export of basmati rice has gone up to Rs 24,919 crore, compared to Rs 21,319 crore in the same period of the last financial year 2017-18.
