Crushing started in only 100 sugar mills across the country
New Delhi. Despite it being one and a half months since the sugarcane crushing season started, crushing started in only 100 sugar mills across the country, as opposed to 310 mills last year. Sugarcane crop has suffered heavy losses due to drought and floods in Maharashtra due to which crushing in sugar mills has not started yet.
According to the Indian Sugar Mills Association of India, in the current crushing season starting from October 1, 2019, only 4.85 lakh tonnes of sugar has been produced till November 15 as compared to 13.38 lakh tonnes of sugar by this time last year._x000D_
In the current crushing season in Uttar Pradesh, crushing has started in 69 sugar mills so far and 2.93 lakh tonnes of sugar has been produced in the state. Last year, the state had produced 1.76 lakh tonnes of sugar by this time. So far, only 18 sugar mills have started crushing in the current crushing season in Karnataka._x000D_
In other states, crushing has started in two sugar mills in Uttarakhand, two in Bihar, one in Haryana, three in Gujarat and five mills in Tamil Nadu and 49,000 tonnes of sugar in these states till November 15 in the current crushing season Has been produced._x000D_
