Chilli Exports Stopped to China
The spread of the corona virus in China has stalled chilli exports from India to China and other countries from China. As a result, countries such as Bangladesh, the Philippines and Thailand are turning to India for chillies. This time, unseasonal rains have affected production, with demand from other countries rising again as prices of chillies in local markets hiked.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to produce around 25 million bags of red chillies. Karnataka will produce 60 to 65 lakh bags and Madhya Pradesh will produce 8 to 10 lakh bags. About 3.15 to 3.50 crore chilies are expected to be available in the country. However, last year's balance in cold storage is very low and new arrival are unlikely to enter the market. This year, red chilli production is expected to increase by 15%. Andhra Pradesh alone accounts for about 45% of the country's production.
