Centre Disburses Rs 15,841 crore under PM-Kisan Yojana; Direct Link to Check PM Kisan Samman Nidhi 2020 Status Here
The Centre has released the first installment of Rs 15,841 crore to as many as 7.92 crore farmers under its ambitious scheme known as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN), since 24th March 2020, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced nationwide lockdown to curb COVID-19.
To recall, under the PM-KISAN Yojana (minimum income support scheme), the Central Government transfers an amount of Rs 6,000 every year, in 3 equal installments, directly into the bank accounts of small farmers in the country - subject to certain exclusion criteria with regard to higher income status.
Due to lockdown and growing cases of Coronavirus in the country, farmers were facing many problems. They were not able to do harvesting of rabi crops nor they could go to mandis to sell their produce. Hence keeping all things in mind and in order to provide immediate relief to growers affected by the nationwide lockdown, the Centre had on 27th March promised to disburse the first installment of Rs 2,000 to all 8.69 crore beneficiaries under PM-Kisan scheme, in the first week of April.
The agriculture ministry in a statement said that "During the lockdown period from 24th March, around 7.92 crore farmer families have been benefited (under PM-KISAN yojana) & an amount of Rs 15,841 crore has been released so far".
