Central government increases support price for rabi crops
New Delhi. The central government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) of crops from 4.61% to 7.26% for the Rabi marketing season 2020-21. After a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the government has increased the support price of rabi crops from Rs 85 to 325 per quintal.
Raising the support price of wheat by Rs 85 to Rs 1,925 per quintal, the main Rabi crop. The MSP has been fixed at Rs 1,525 per quintal for the marketing season 2020-21 by raising the support price of barley by 5.90%.
The support price of mustard, the major crop of Rabi oilseeds, has been increased by 5.35%, i.e., Rs 225 per quintal, to Rs 4,425 per quintal. The price of sunflower has been increased by Rs 270 to Rs 5,215 per quintal.
At the same time, the MSP of gram, the main crop of Rabi pulses, has been increased by 5.51 per cent to Rs 4,875 per quintal for the Rabi marketing season 2020-21. The maximum increase for the current rabi has been 7.26 per cent in the support price of lentils, ie, the tax price of Rs 325, Rs 4,800 per quintal.
