Castor oil exports down by 19%
During the first quarter of the current financial year - 2019-20 - castor oil exports have fallen by 19.18 per cent to total exports of 1,39,336 tonnes as against 1,72,777 tonnes in the same period of the last financial year. According to the Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA), prices are strong due to the low availability of castor in the domestic market, due to which the quantity of castor oil exports has registered a decrease in the first quarter but by value, exports have increased. Castor oil exports by value have been valued at Rs 1,581.57 crore during April to June of the current financial year 2019-20 as against Rs 1,553.09 crore in the same period last fiscal. According to SEA, the total export of castor oil from India in the financial year 2018-19 was 5.71 lakh tonnes i.e. Rs 5,561 crore. Most of the castor oil is ex vgported from India to China.
