Artificial Intelligence used in Agriculture
New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in agriculture. He said that it can be used for many tasks, including weather information, estimation of crop yield, and so on. This will benefit the farmers in the coming time. The Agriculture Minister said that the Agriculture Ministry, under the Cooperative and Farmer Welfare Department and the Prime Minister's Insurance Scheme, is studying the methods of harvesting through artificial intelligence. He said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used in many areas of agriculture such as weather, crop and price forecasts and yield estimates. He said that the AI can be used to increase production and productivity in the farms, and provide information and advisory services to farmers about pests. Further, it can help reduce the cost of production through the precise use of agri inputs like fertilizers, chemicals, irrigation. Source - Outlook Agriculture, July 26, 2019
