Aadhaar Optional for second instalment of PM-Kisan Scheme
According to the government's declaration, seeding Aadhaar with bank accounts will not be mandatory by law for small and marginal farmers to receive the second instalment of Rs 2,000 due on 1 April under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM - KiSAN) scheme.
However, for the release of the second instalment, Aadhaar number will be required. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM-Kisan scheme on 24 February by transferring the first instalment of Rs 2,000 to 1,01 crore farmers each, totalling Rs 2,021 crore. While approving the scheme on February 1, the Cabinet made Aadhaar seeding, the beneficiaries' data compulsory for the release of the second instalment.
Under the Rs 75,000 crore PM-KISAN scheme, 12 crore small and marginal farmers' families will receive Rs 6,000 in three instalments per year. The PM-KISAN is fully financed by the central government. In order to calculate the benefit, the Centre has defined a small and marginal family of landowners as one consisting of husband, wife, and minor children under the age of 18 years.
