14.79 MT Food Grain Production is Targeted this Kharif Season
The Ministry of Agriculture intends to target the production of 14.79 million tons of food grains in the 2019-20 Kharif season. Kharif's main production target is rice at 10.2 million tonnes. This is due to the forecast of the ' near normal ' monsoon by the Indian Meteorological Department.
These targets are advanced according to the second advance estimates especially in comparison to the overall Kharif output for 2018-19, that is 142.24 MT. The ministry also considers production to be tentatively around 143.2 MT during Rabi season 2019-20. Maize production is intended to be around 21.3 MT.
Coarse cereal output is projected at about 35.8 MT and pulses at around 10.1 MT. Jowar, bajra and ragi production will be 2.1 MT, 9.5 MT, and 2.3 MT, respectively. Total oilseed manufacturing is also expected to be 25.84 MT and sugar cane production is expected to be 385.50 MT. The cotton output is expected to be 35.75 million bales (each of 170 kg).
