Farmers' Income to Double with Atma Scheme
New Delhi. The central government has created a scheme named 'Atma' (Agriculture Technology Management Agency), under which farmers can be trained to modernize farming under various agriculture related schemes. This scheme has been implemented in 684 districts. Under this, training, demonstration, study, tour, farmer fair, organizing farmer groups and farm schools will be conducted. The objective of this scheme is also to establish upright coordination between agricultural scientists and farmers. By properly implementing this, the income of farmers can be increased. Cultivation in a scientific way can yield more at a lower cost. So far, 19.18 lakh farmers have been trained to cultivate with new technology. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research through its Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) network undertakes technology evaluation, demonstration and capacity building of farmers. It has trained 15.75 lakh farmers this year. About 3,42,188 farmers were trained to increase production and productivity of rice, wheat, pulses, coarse grains, and nutritious grains.
