Water level at 29% in the country
New Delhi: There has been a considerable decrease in the water storage available in major reservoirs due to heat in the country. There are currently reserves of 46.513 billion cubic meters (BCM) of water in the country's 98 reservoirs, which is 29% of these reservoirs' total storage capacity. Only 12.5% of water supply and 3.0% of water supply are available on average over the past 10 years, according to the National Water Commission. Water levels are higher in North, South, and Central India compared to last year, whereas water levels have declined in Eastern and Western India. Only 20% of water was present in last year's reservoirs in the northern states of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Rajasthan. While 29% of the water stock is present this year. Only 40% of the water stock is in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Tripura in the eastern part of the country. In the same period last year, 42% of the water stock in these four states was saved.
There are currently 20% stocks in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. Last year, 17% of the water was in stock during this period. In Gujarat and Maharashtra, stock is available at 21%. Reservoirs had 28% water stock in the same period. It has fallen by 7% this year. In Central India, water reserves were found in 29% of reservoirs in four states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
