Smart Sampling Technology for Crop Harvesting
New Delhi: The Central Agricultural Cooperation and Farmers Welfare Ministry, in partnership with the Mahalanobis National Crop Investigation Center, conducted experimental studies on crop cultivation in various states. During the 2018 Kharif season and the 2019 Rabi season, 8 organisations participated in this trial under the Prime Minister's PIC Insurance Scheme.
After this experimental study, it was found that there is a possibility of a 30% to 70% reduction in statistical errors in crop yields by region and crop. In this result, the central government decided to implement smart sampling technology for crop harvesting experiments in 96 districts of 9 states. This technology will be used for paddy crops in the Kharif season of 2019. The location will be selected on the basis of the satellite information. If the experiment of using a statistical method with the aid of satellite, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to calculate total crop production is efficient, the experiment can be used everywhere Agriculture Minister, Narendra Singh Tomar, gave this information to the Rajya Sabha.
