Pesticide, seed bills expected to be approved in the next session of Parliament!
New Delhi. The government hopes to pass two bills related to pesticide management and seeds in the upcoming session of Parliament. Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala said that the Pesticide Management Bill emphasizes on regulating the pesticide sector by setting prices and setting up regulatory authorities.
The Bill will replace the Pesticides Act 1968. At the same time, the Seed Bill emphasizes on regularizing the production, distribution and sale of seeds. It will replace the Seed Act 1966. The bill was put on hold in 2015 due to the criticism of various sections due to the provision of genetically modified crops in the bill. Rupala said in the program of industry body Assocham that we are working on two important bills Pesticide Management Bill and Seed Bill. They are expected to be passed in the next session of Parliament. The government is concerned about the sale of adulterated pesticides and seeds. The purpose of these Bills is also to address this issue. Parliament's standing committee has presented the report after considering it. Pesticides have been redefined in the Bill. In this, the regulation of poor quality, adulterated or harmful pesticides and other criteria have been prescribed.
