New Mustard in the market at 16% below Support Price
The central government has fixed mustard MSP at Rs. 4,200 per quintal; however, farmers are given lesser values.
Rabi seeds major crop, mustard, has arrived in the key producing states (Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana) but purchases have not yet begun on the Minimum Support Price (MSP). The prices have therefore fallen from Rs. 3,500 to Rs 3,600 per quintal, whereas the central government has decided MSP of Rs. 4,200 per quintal. Gaje Singh, a farmer from Sonipat in Haryana, said he had sold Rs 3,500 per quintal of mustard in the market. He said the state government is not buying at the support price, as a result of which traders are buying at below the support price. Imports of edible and non-edible oils increased to 12.42 lakh tonnes in February compared to 11.57 lakh tonnes in February last year. According to SEA, the difference in imports of crude oil and palm oil by the government fee increases the imports of refined edible oils from 10% to 5%.
